Decorated with a floral wreath design, this quilt is drawn from one of the largest and most complete groups of 19th century dowry textiles known to survive, the Landes Dowry from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Largely the work of three sisters who never married, the pieces, and particularly the quilts, anticipate a large household that never became a reality. As a treasured heirloom, this quilt has survived in especially fine condition with its vivid coloration intact.
