Colour lithograph, 1897 This design was initially made as an in-house calendar for Champenois but its great popularity led to its swift publication as a decorative panel, as seen here. The blank spaces at the top were originally used to show the company name and address as well as the year designation ‘1898’. The composition features a dreamy young woman in a beautifully embroidered Slavic dress, leafing through the pages of a decorative design book. Her figure is set against a prominent halo—a symbol of universal harmony according to Mucha—decorated with an elaborate floral pattern.
