Race to Agnano

Nicola depicts a horse race towards the town of Agnano near Naples, as the horses stride down the path away from the viewer. Onlookers watch as they pass, both along the road and in the trees. The subject of the “horse race” was popular in England, and here, the artist captures the energy of the event with thick brush strokes much like his Military Review at Campo di Marte above.
