Rangda is an evil being that always appears in the stories of life in Bali. It was the evil incarnation of the God Umawhich was possessed by the GoddessDurga'sfeelings of envy and jealousy. The presence of this Rangda, in Hindu-Bali mythology, was always countered by the Barong, which fought it tooth and nail, and was symbolized as a being guarding the truth. Rangda always appears in the Balinese dance drama performances. Hendra understood what the Rangda was about after he moved to Bali. Here the Rangda is depicted as getting the best of his opponents, before the Barong defeats him. (Agus T. Dermawan)
