This is a popularity ranking chart of Noh plays held by the 12th Lord Akitomo of the Yanagawa domain at his residence from 1885 to 1895. The chart was made imitating the ranking board of sumo wrestlers. It is divided into two groups, the east and the west, and has the list of the performers and the programs from the top (大関) to the bottom (前頭). The top program in the east is “Ataka (安宅)” which is a dramatic story favored by samurai society while in the west is “Yuya (湯谷)” which is performed by a beautiful woman wearing the elegant costume. The top two (大関, 関脇) performers, both in the east and the west, is the Lord (大殿様), namely Akitomo. It shows that he was enthusiastic about Noh plays.
