The baskets of various shapes made from bamboo splints and rattans were mostly commonly used as cooking utensils, containers and fishing tools for the Taiwan indigenous tribes. The most popular forms of basket weaving were braiding and coiled styles of basketry. Among the tribes, the Atayal are best known for their basket weaving.
