The visual thesis presentation serves as a way to track, analyze and further the general
scope of African narratives created by texts considered to be canon African Literature.
Previously, female African characters have been portrayed as occupying a second-class
citizen position in traditional African societies where in reality, the pre-colonial African
communities would actually see matriarchal women as pivotal both in the household and in
the governance of communities. I communicate this through my thesis and highlight how
through the insurgence of female African authors in contemporary/ postcolonial African
literature women are reshaping and recentering the woman in African literature.
