Ready to take the wheel on the M-113 armored carrier is STS-100 Mission Specialist Yuri V. Lonchakov, who is with the Russian Space and Aviation Agency. He and the rest of the crew are taking part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities, which include emergency escape training, payload walkdown and a simulated launch countdown. The tracked vehicle could be used by the crew in the event of an emergency at the pad during which the crew must make a quick exit from the area.
