This picture scroll was drawn by Asō Yutaka, an artist popular in Japan for his postwar four-panel newspaper comic, Nonki na Tōsan (various English titles, roughly "Carefree Dad"). He documented the process of rebuilding Ginza, the district of Tokyo where his studio was located, after World War II. This work depicts the area of Ginza Nichōme through Ginza Gochōme, where war damage remains visible. A groundbreaking ceremony for a new construction project and outdoor cooking can be seen in the picture. Various people are visible on the street, including returnees from the war, fashionable women, and demonstrators. There are also a few characters from Nonki na Tōsan incorporated into the work.
