The Russo-Turkish War of 1827-1829 put a strain on the "Holy Alliance" between Russia and Austria. The Treaty of Adrianople from 1829 isolated Metternich in his foreign policy and fostered the Greek struggle for independence. In 1839 a painting of the reception in 1829 underscored the diplomatic rapprochement between the two states.
