It's hardly possible to overestimate the impact of the Beatles on American (and world) pop music in the 1960s, either in their first incarnation as cuddlesome mop-topped teen idols recording 3-minute hit singles or their later incarnation as cosmic hipsters pushing musical and societal boundaries before their much-lamented breakup in 1970. "Let It Be" was the only Beatles album to occasion negative and even hostile reviews. Although released in 1970 as their final album, the Beatles actually recorded it in early 1969 before "Abbey Road." Although some critics have considered the album's material sub-standard for the Beatles, it nevertheless includes several songs that have became memorable Beatles hits; "Let It Be," "Get Back," and "The Long and Winding Road."
