Thomas Yeo (1936) graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Broad planes of vivid colours dominate in this bold yet effective composition. From the mid-1970s onwards, Yeo broadened the formal properties of his painting by introducing new materials into his works. This was done chiefly, through collage with the use of rice paper, but in 'Red Rhythm', the artist has incorporated marble and acrylic paste into the media. Here, red is the predominant colour and the central form is framed by the two bands of ochre brown.
