The statuettes, made of Steatite, former name for soft and unctuous minerals were brought from Philippines to the Royal Cabinet of Natural History in the eighteenth century by Juan de Cuellar, expeditionary and Spanish botanist. These pieces are the expression of the prevailing tendency to collect oriental objects in the age of the Enlightenment.
