The MaHongwe and the Kota of Nothern Gabon produced relinquary figures which were placed over baskets containing relics of the illustrious dead members of the lineage. There was a larger figure representing the founders of the lineage. This art is classified as one of the greatest art treasures and was one of the notable inspirations of the so-called "modern" art movement in Europe during the early 20th Century.
