17th Century

Museo del Duomo e Cattedrale di Fidenza

The reliquiary contains a fragment of Chirst's cross, has a cross shape with turned handle and a pedestal. On the pedestal in the front, an application with a Madonna with the child in low-relief, on the other sides there are San Donnino holding his head with the sword and the emblem of the Antini family. On the back of the cross, two inscriptions dating the construction and the restorations: "anno dom[in]i/1660 - FRANCISCVS - JACOBVS / ET LVUDOVICVUS FRATRES / DE ANTINIS / EX DEVOT[ION]E" "COLLEGIVM CANONICORVM RESTAURANDVM CARAVIT / A MDCCCL". The reliquary was probably donated in 1660 to the church of the Madonna dello Stirone and, after its demolition in 1812 for the building of a new bridge on the Via Emilia, it was carried to the cathedral, when in 1850 was restaurated at the canons'a will.
