The artistic representations of the man of prehistory were quickly associated with animality, the man extricating little by little from his natural condition to reach civilization. What is interesting in this fantasized representation based on the myth of the good Rousseau savage is the existence of the bear. One hundred and ten years later, the discovery of the Chauvet cave will show, at least for this cavity, a symbolic link between the man and the cave bear.
