This excellent portrait, possibly of Eleonora de Medici, is attributed to the Italian painter Sofonisba Anguissola. She settled in Madrid from 1559 to 1573 as lady-in-waiting to Queen Isabella of Valois and Princess Isabella Clara Eugenia, and became court painter to Philip II.
