This view is from a group of photographs associated with the seige of Port Hudson, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, that began May 22 and ended July 9, 1863 when the Confederate garrison surrendered after learning of the fall of Vicksburg. Shown is a view looking from the revetment toward higher ground. The fortification is made with basket like structures made from tree branches that appear to be stuffed with earth and leaves.
