The future Stern photographer Harry Weber escaped to Palestine as a 17-year-old in 1938. In 1944 he volunteered with 5,000 other Jews for the British Army’s Jewish Brigade. In this way he was granted the privilege of returning to his homeland as a liberator. He kept his rifle and ammunition until his death in 2007.
