This ring has the petalled bezel, fashionable for its evocation of flower petals, that was so characteristic of ring settings in the Renaissance period.Turquoise appeared to be especially popular for use in rings in the first half of the 16th century, in part for its rarity and cost as well as its startling colour. The turquoise is framed by the red of garnets in an unusual colour combination.
