Ring

Both the ring itself and the setting of this impressive Roman ring are made of transparent green glass. A large oval amethyst has been mounted in the setting. It has been cut like a seal-stone, with the image of a standing female figure − possibly the goddess Athene. In antiquity, amethysts were believed to provide protection from influences such as the adverse effects of alcohol.
