Count Giacomo Melzi (1721-1802), captain and Knight of the Order of Malta, second son of Count Francesco Saverio, was one of the greatest art collectors in eighteenth-century Milan: his collection included an important group of Lombard paintings of the Renaissance (Bergognone, Zenale, Luini), acquired in the main at the time of the Napoleonic requisitions.
