River of toil

The River Douro’s traditional function can still be seen in the fishing boats. Before the
river’s current was regularized, technological progress had transformed fishing through modernization of its equipment. Nowadays the exclusive use of the river for commercial or fishing purposes has given way to leisure pursuits.
