The roan antelope was naturalized in Leipzig (Germany) in 1912 and has great symbolic value as it is a pioneer piece. This impressive African antelope was the specimen used by Luis Benedito, the taxidermist who made the best naturalizations of mammals preserved in the Museum, to learn a new taxidermy technique called dermoplasty. His teacher, Herman ter Meer, was a Dutchman settled in Leipzig who worked for the Museum of Natural History. Both signed this splendid work that remains flawless after a century.
