Rock crystal intaglio

0/199

Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo

Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo
Linares (Jaén), Spain

This intaglio, probably of a pendant, has a representation of a country scene that could be related to the collection, in which Eros is trying to flush out a bird that perches on the branch of a vine, on which also a ladder on the opposite side rests.

The technique used and iconography represented, could indicate that it is a piece created around the first or second century, and we can find parallels in mosaics and sculptural representations located in the Mediterranean.

This piece is carved on a great quality rock crystal of cryptocrystalline type, with a fully transparent manufacturing.
