  • Artist Information: Min Yeong-ik came from the Yeoheung Min clan. He passed the state examination for appointment to civil office in 1877. He became the Third Minister of the Board of Personnel in 1881 and was appointed as Minister Plenipotentiary and Envoy Extraordinary to the U.S. in 1883. He served as Minister of the Board of Rites in 1885 and State Councilor in 1898. He fled to Shanghai after the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. Min was outstanding in the calligraphic style of Yan Zhenqing (the Yan style) and painting orchids in ink.
