Roman spoils

These high quality bronze vessels decorated with figurative motifs were discovered in the Cave of the letters, used as a place of refuge by the Bar Kokhba rebels. The vessels are of Roman origins and were presumably taken by the Jewish rebels as spoils in the course of the battle. Some of the human images on the pagan vessels were effaced because of the Jewish prohibition against them.
