'Rooms' embodies life in the big city, in which people live close together but are lonely nonetheless. Eight chairs represent the rooms of eight people who live an isolated live. The ballet expresses the traditional life pattern, which according to Sokolow, is splintered and disrupted. There are nine scenes, in which the people try to break through their loneliness: Dream, Escape, Go, Desire, Panic, Day Dream and The End. Unfortunately, the dancers appear unable to escape their pattern.
