Roseate Spoonbill

This species is an icon of the coastal zone in the southeastern U.S. John James Audubon, who painted this in the mid-1800s, provided a spark for North American Ornithology with his spectacular work: Birds of America. This photo is of a plate of the museum's copy of what is called the Double Elephant Folio printing of this seminal work.
