Scientists recognize up to nine subspecies of the Giraffe. The Rothschild’s (or Uganda) Giraffe is a severely threatened subspecies. The surviving population is estimated at no more than 100 to 150 individuals, which occur in the dry bush and tree savannas south of the Sahara, primarily in East Africa.
