The Joseon Dynasty’s measurement units were the cheok and chi. One
cheok equals ten chi. Approximately one cheok equals one-third of
a meter. During the early Joseon Dynasty, 32.21 cm equaled one cheok.
However, during King Sejong’s reign, 31.22 cm equaled one cheok. During
the period of The Greater Korean Empire, the current measurement of 33.33 cm came into common usage.
