Ruins of the Chapter Room

Construction of the Chapter Room was started in 1513, during the reign of King Manuel, by the architect Diogo de Arruda and continued by João de Castilho. On the lower floor would have been the Friars´s Chapter House and on the upper one, the Knights. It was partially rebuilt in 1533-45 in the renaissance style until King João III suspended all work, and it was never completed.
