Choreographer: Hans van Manen

Hans van Manen created 'On the Move' for the Holland Festival programme in 1992, when he also celebrated his thirty-fifth anniversary as a choreographer. The music was the starting point for this work. The character of Sergej Prokofiev's music has served as a powerful inspiration for this ballet, which makes use off folk dance motifs. Just like the music, ‘On the Move’ is divided into three sections, and the movement reflects the characteristically capricious nature of the music.
