The Saarbrücken Miner's Calendar was an institution in Saarland for 140 years. The production of this book also came to an end following the decline in the mining industry. The first almanac was published by the Saarbrücken mining headquarters in 1872 in the first year following the Franco-Prussia War. It was used by miners and their families as a guide throughout the year and provided knowledge on history, geography and regional studies. Cheerful stories and information on city festivals were also printed in this book. The binder of the calendar stylises neo-Gothic decorative stones with two miners to the left and right of the niches. The glorification of miners is neutralised by the small drawings of workers and mining buildings.
