The model 1818 saber was the weapon chosen for infantry troops of the Civil Guard out of all the models used by different military units at that time. It was originally 70 cm (2' 4") long, but it was shortened in 1879 and used by the corps well into the 20th century. The Royal Order of February 22, 1853 established its duration as 20 years, and set its price, which rose to 10.25 pesetas in 1871.
