Safety Show

An article from an issue of US Steel news talking about a safety held for employees at the Homestead Works. The man advertising the show in this image is wearing a heat suit. This gear was used in blast furnaces and other hot working environments to protect against liquid metal and other heat hazards. Before the use of such suits, most workers wore long underwear (to wick sweat) underneath of street clothes alongside hard hats and goggles when working in the hot areas of the mill.
