This saint is usually identified as Andrew, despite the fact that his cross is usually X-shaped. This work is part of the same altarpiece as 'Christ rising from the Tomb'; other parts are known to have survived. Other compartments show Saints Peter, Paul, Ambrose, Bernard and Anthony Abbot, together with a predella with Christ and the twelve Apostles.

- Artist Biography: Gaudenzio Ferrari was from Varallo in North Italy, and was active over a wide area of Lombardy and Piedmont. His early art is affected by Bergognone. Later he was influenced by the Milanese followers of Leonardo da Vinci, in particular Luini.
