The three woods come from a dismantled altarpiece: the side figures were located inside the chest; the Lamentation occupied the predella.
This work is extremely interesting because it shows the simultaneous presence of sculptors of different origins all working in the same workshop. They express themselves with styles that are very different from one another: one is of Tyrolean origin, and can be noticed in the figure of the Evangelist; the other is permeated by Renaissance experiences from Lombardy, and can be noticed in the Baptist connoting controlled solemnity in his gestures and a regular draping.
