This sake cup has a Kanji character which is represented in a flat gold Maki-e design on the vermillion lacquer ground. It has inscriptions on the backside which says “written by Jikan” and “He died at the age of 128”. It shows that Jikan had a very long life. Therefore, it seems that someone who wish to follow Jikan’s long life ordered to make the sake cup adapting the Kanji character written by Jikan for its motif.
