Tree turtles are shown in hira maki-e (flat sprinkled metal decoration) on the vermillion lacquered cup. The turtles’ shells are depicted with kirikane (cutting foil). On the backside, flowing water design is executed in maki-e (sprinkled metal decoration).
This sake cup is considered to have been purchased from a lacquerware dealer in Edo (now Tokyo).
