Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat, covering over 10'000 square kilometres. It is situated at an altitude of 3,656 m above sea level in the Bolivian Altopiano and is the result of several prehistoric lakes that have been evaporated over time leaving an extraordinary flat salt crust of several meters thickness. It looks like a huge lake of water because of the reflection the salt creates (which is very similar to the one of water) and is also called the world's largest mirror.
