Description: This painting was mentioned by the most ancient critics as the work of Gaudenzio Ferrari, and only later was it reattributed to Bernardino Lanino. The delicate rendering of the figure of Christ, shown with his hand raised in a gesture of blessing, following northern iconography, and the delicate modulations of chiaroscuro recall the formal softness of Leonardo, which also characterized the graphic and pictorial production of Lanino in the years around the fifth decade of the sixteenth century. These considerations, together with the comparison with other signed works depicting the same subject, lead scholars to date the work to the beginning of the seventh decade of the sixteenth century.
