This sampler, which probably dates back to the Late Horizon period, is one of the few well preserved examples that are known of. Because of the type of designs it may be assumed that the piece comes from the Central Coast. There are fifteen motifs executed in different decorative techniques over the base of a tapestry. The patterns are characteristic of the iconography of the Central Coast for this period and represent birds, human-like figures, step like geometric patterns, crosses, and zigzag designs. Objects like this one must have been used by weavers to show the designs that they were able to produce for their potential clients. (CP)
