Sargassum (Sargassaceae, Fuciales, Phaeophyta) is a typical brown algae. It is found in the coastal intertidal zones of Taiwan. As other algae in the coastal intertidal zones gradually subside, Sargassum grows and replaces them. It even forms a large-scale algae blanket. Sargassum glaucescens often grows from tens of centimeters to more than 1 meter. In the coastal tidal zone of southern Taiwan, such as in Kenting National Park, Sargassum glaucescens forms a large cluster population during the period from late spring to early summer every year.
