The toy tool set, tool chest, or tool belt has long been a staple of the playroom. Such sets--handmade decades ago by a loving father or grandfather or massed-produced by an international toy conglomerate--encouraged kids to play at adult roles and responsibilities. Kids enjoy play that imitates the work of their elders; parents like that kids' play may translate into adult skills some years in the future. To appeal to contemporary kids, such toys however must keep up with current technology. When electric-powered tools began to make dad's work as a handyman easier, it was only a matter of time before toy power tools found their way into the average kid's toybox.
