The toy tool set, tool chest, or tool belt has long been a staple of the playroom. Such sets--handmade decades ago by a loving father or grandfather or massed-produced by an international toy conglomerate--encouraged kids to play at adult roles and responsibilities. Kids enjoy play that imitates the work of their elders; parents like that kids' play may translate into adult skills some years in the future. To appeal to contemporary kids, such toys however must keep up with current technology.
