After the Saarbrücken/Neunkirchen railway line was inaugurated in 1852, the Dudweiler/Hirschbach pit benefited enormously from it. Three railway shafts (conveyor systems with a track) were drilled in the direct vicinity of this connection between 1849 and 1860, Scalley shaft I, II and III.
