This scarf is part of Benito Mussolini's "Oro alla Patria," a campaign to collect gold during World War II. This program encouraged women to give up their wedding rings and other gold jewelry in the interest of the state's war effort. These women received Italian-made 'replacement' rings with the inscription "Oro alla patria," the date 18. Nov. 35, as well as XIV for the 14th year of the Fascist Era in Italy. "Oro alla Patria," meaning "Gold for the Fatherland"
