Sha Qi, born in Sha Village, Yin Country, Zhejiang province. In 1932 he began to study at Shanghai Fine Art School, later entering the National Central University. In 1937 he entered the Royal Academy, Belgium (Académie royale de Belgique) recommended by Xu Beihong. After graduation, he held many exhibitions in Europe. In 1978 he donated all his works from the period in Belgium to the Zhejiang Provincial Museum. In 1983, touring exhibition of his works organized by Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts and Zhejiang branch of China Artists Association was shown in Beijing, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. In 1984 he was appointed as a member of The Shanghai Research Institute of Culture and History.
