Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The Snow Leopard is a solitary territorial hunter that requires a home range of up to 1,000 square kilometers. Its dense fur offers optimal protection against extreme cold and heat alike. This particularly soft fur and the use of its bones in traditional Chinese medicine brought the Snow Leopard close to extinction. Today, no more than about 4,000 animals remain in the high mountain ranges of Asia and Siberia.
