This Dräger BG 4 breathing apparatus was in use in the "Nordschacht" until 2012 - the last active shaft of the Saar pit in Lebach-Falscheid. It is currently the safest respirator in use for mining operations. It provides breathing air for up to four hours and ensures a high degree of breathing comfort thanks to the integrated cooling system. Soda lime absorbs the carbon dioxide of the exhaled air while oxygen is constantly added. Also, carrying comfort and freedom of movement are significantly improved by the ergonomically shape carrying bowl and an adjusted breathing hose routing in comparison to earlier models.
